Urbana Hawks Ice Hockey |
Alumni |
A note from former coach Bill: As the local high school hockey teams started, I was asked to help the Urbana Ice Hockey team develop and grow during its early years. There were many memorial moments, both on the ice and off the ice, that I remember. A few memories include: 7 men in the penalty box at one time, the tournaments in Cumberland, seeing a goalie make saves that astonished the crowd and left the other team speechless, our never ending battle to beat Walkersville, going to Hooters in a limo, and one of the classics was promising to share my niece's email address with any player who scored 3 goals in one game. I still have and wear my Urbana Coach Bill practice jacket but do not need it often in New Orleans. I started the Urbana Alumni Annual Hockey Game as a way to have the former players return back to where they skated as a team and did their best to play hard but also have a good time. There is always a place for tradition and that was my contribution to the legacy. This year I can not be there to watch so I decided to pay for the ice and will be thinking of you on Dec. 27th. A day cannot go by without me thinking of Urbana's team and what it meant to me. On my desk is a puck from a group of players from Urbana and I smile every time I look at it. Here is the picture: |
I wish you all well this year and hope the game is one to remember. I am following your web site for updates and a great season left to play. Skate hard..keep your head up..and the next goal may be yours... Merry Christmas and Seasons Greetings! |
